Summary

This acclaimed autobiography presents a fascinating portrait of one of the great spiritual figures of our time。 With engaging candor, eloquence, and wit, Paramahansa Yogananda narrates the inspiring chronicle of his life: the experiences of his remarkable childhood, encounters with many saints and sages during his youthful search throughout India for an illumined teacher, ten years of training in the hermitage of a revered yoga master, and the thirty years that he lived and taught in America。 Also recorded here are his meetings with Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Luther Burbank, the Catholic stigmatist Therese Neumann, and other celebrated spiritual personalities of East and West。

Autobiography of a Yogi is at once a beautifully written account of an exceptional life and a profound introduction to the ancient science of Yoga and its time-honored tradition of meditation。 The author clearly explains the subtle but definite laws behind both the ordinary events of everyday life and the extraordinary events commonly termed miracles。 His absorbing life story thus becomes the background for a penetrating and unforgettable look at the ultimate mysteries of human existence。

Considered a modern spiritual classic, the book has been translated into more than twenty languages and is widely used as a text and reference work in colleges and universities。 A perennial bestseller since it was first published sixty years ago, Autobiography of a Yogi has found its way into the hearts of millions of readers around the world。

Have mixed feelings about the book。 On one hand I did really enjoy many of his stories about encounters with spiritual masters and own experiences with the divine。 On the other hand it really made me cringe every time Kriya yoga was mentioned being the ultimate method。 It really created feeling that the whole purpose of the book was just sell a specific product, ”the quickest method for self-liberation” which turned me off。 There was also a paragraph containing detailed description of astral lev Have mixed feelings about the book。 On one hand I did really enjoy many of his stories about encounters with spiritual masters and own experiences with the divine。 On the other hand it really made me cringe every time Kriya yoga was mentioned being the ultimate method。 It really created feeling that the whole purpose of the book was just sell a specific product, ”the quickest method for self-liberation” which turned me off。 There was also a paragraph containing detailed description of astral level life which IMHO didn’t fit well with other stuff in the book and was more like suitable material to sci-fi book。 。。。more

I was curious to read the favorite book of Steve Jobs。 It was the only book on Jobs' ipad and it was handed away during his funeral。。。 The style is similar to Narbekov and Kastaneda。 It contains fairy tales about fakirs, levitating saints, miraculous prophets, teleportation and other magic。 I was not impressed for sure。 However I did enjoy some small parts about history of music, art, culture and religion of India I was curious to read the favorite book of Steve Jobs。 It was the only book on Jobs' ipad and it was handed away during his funeral。。。 The style is similar to Narbekov and Kastaneda。 It contains fairy tales about fakirs, levitating saints, miraculous prophets, teleportation and other magic。 I was not impressed for sure。 However I did enjoy some small parts about history of music, art, culture and religion of India 。。。more

When I read an autobiography what i look for is to understand the person, his philosophy, and the surroundings the story is set。。。 Or history if he is a historical person。 This book happens to succeed in all of this。 But。。。。 I felt less satisfied as i turned the last page。 That was actually because of the hype surrounding it。。。were it has been reported that many a persons including Steve Jobs were fans of this book。A word on the swamji。。。 He is somebody who studied and perpetuated Kriya yoga in When I read an autobiography what i look for is to understand the person, his philosophy, and the surroundings the story is set。。。 Or history if he is a historical person。 This book happens to succeed in all of this。 But。。。。 I felt less satisfied as i turned the last page。 That was actually because of the hype surrounding it。。。were it has been reported that many a persons including Steve Jobs were fans of this book。A word on the swamji。。。 He is somebody who studied and perpetuated Kriya yoga in India and around the world。 He was a deeply spiritual person from his childhood and sees everything happening around him as Gods' doings。 For a person who looks at life from a logical mindset wont be able to digest many of his stories, but everything he says comes out as genuine and there lies the problem of this book。 Either you have to believe what ever is written or you have to just write it off。。 And it is difficult to go in as a sceptic and come out liking this book。He is somebody who tried to integrate the eastern and the western religions, especially Jesus's teachings and Vedic teachings and comes up with a common path for both which was necessary as it seems his disciples in the west would have found it easier to identify with Swamiji's teachings that way。 。。。more

The book forces you to think differently and act accordingly。 This was my first book on the topic of spirituality and I must say that it really moved me。 The intricate manner in which the author explains his journey through life is really eye-opening and inspirational。 I Will definitely read it again someday。

This autobiography is an exercise in self-aggrandisement。 Of course, there are places where the yogi teaches the reader about some of the essential practices of Yoga, which can be valuable。 It is both a science and a belief system, so Paramahansa Yogananda covers both aspects。

This book is full of hallucinations and delusions。 After reading 12 chapters, I had to call it quits。 Every chapter is full of illogical stuff, this book was written at a time when faith in supernatural was at it's peak。 This book is full of hallucinations and delusions。 After reading 12 chapters, I had to call it quits。 Every chapter is full of illogical stuff, this book was written at a time when faith in supernatural was at it's peak。 。。。more
